Location Keywords, can prove to be one of the most powerful aspects of your establishment listing, but only if they are put to the best use.

Location keywords are words or phrases that allow your establishment to be associated with more locations across the UK by our search engine. If you already submit your establishments own web site or have a basic understanding about web site design then you will have some idea of how our location keywords work.

There is one important rule with our Location keyword field:

How location keywords work...

Our search engine logic is designed to search through your address, description and keyword fields. When a user undertakes a search for example "London" our search engine will crawl through every listing in our database to find the word "London" either in the address, description or keyword field.

This logic has two main advantages:

  • It provides search results which includes establishments within the proximity of the location keyword ie "London"
     
  • Gives the user quick access to a wide range of establishments that fall within the required location. The browser can always narrow their search by clicking on the "More places2 in this area" link, should they require an establishment within the location and not within its proximity.

Hints on your location keyword selection...

Adding location keywords is an important part of your establishment listing, as it greatly increase your chance of been found.

All you have to do is add location keywords to describe the location of your establishment, (no need to enter your county or town / city name these are automatically done) for example...

  • If you are close to an airport or major attraction you may wish to add this.
     
  • You may be within 10 - 15 miles of a major town or city such as Manchester, so you may wish to add this location.
     
  • You may be located in a tourist area such as the yorkshire dales, or dartmoor, so consider adding these in so you can be found for tourist area based searches.

Location keyword design...

It is important (not vital but helps to speed up your establishment submission process) that when adding location keywords where possible you consider the following rules...

  • If you need to have a space between words use the _ key, so your phrase looks like - south_yorkshire or wootton_wawen
     
  • If you are near an airport, again use the _ key between words and use the following phrase - birmingham_international_airport, or heathrow_airport etc

Following these guidelines are not essential, as all location keywords are approved by our submissions team, but they do help us in speeding up the submission process, which allows us to get your establishment live within the places2eat-sleep-drink.com online directory quicker.
